It’s so easy these days to find vegan options at the grocery store, and not only kale and carrots (though they hold a special place in my heart and weekly shopping list). After priority #1 which is getting fresh produce, it’s nice for us plant-based eaters to find products that are meat-free, dairy-free, egg-free, and often organic and non-GMO certified. These convenience products make healthier food switches easier, especially now that most big-name grocers carry them. Even vegans want quick options, too! Here are some vegan packaged food items that have recently hit the market.
the neat egg – A Healthy Replacement for Eggs
The company neat foods is known for its plant-based meat replacement products. Late last year they introduced their healthy egg replacement called “the neat egg,” and in February they launched the foodservice size of the product. The all-natural mix is derived from chia seeds and garbanzo beans, and it’s soy-free, gluten-free, non-GMO and 100% vegan. To replace one egg, you just mix two tabelspoons of water with one tabelspoon of neat egg mix.
UNREAL UNJUNKED CANDy – DARK CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER CUPS
Unreal, an “unjunked” food company, recently relaunched its line of unjunked candy with new packaging and flavors. Not every flavor is vegan, but among the company’s new products are vegan Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups and vegan Dark Chocolate Coconut Peanut Butter Cups, so there’s something for everyone! I’ve never had this brand, but would love to get my hands on some of these PB cups ASAP! According to the site Candy Industry, Unreal’s candy is available in 1,000 stores across the country, including select Super Target stores, Kroger and select Whole Foods Markets.
COCOA CHERRY FLAVOR SQUAREBARS
Since I love to work out in the afternoon, I like to nibble on half a protein bar beforehand, then finish the other half right after to refuel. Plus, they’re also perfect to keep in my bag to quickly quell hunger in-between meals. Squarebar recently came out with Cocoa Cherry and Cocoa Mint flavors, and both are delicious! They’re made with brown rice protein and are soy-free and gluten-free.
Gardein Meat-Free Pocket Meals
Plant-based protein brand gardein recently launched some handheld products, including new pocket meals in three flavors – crispy chick’n and kale, Italian meat-free sausage, and BBQ pulled porkless shreds. These new pocket meals show that the demand for vegan products is growing, and companies are stepping up to meet that demand. I would definitely try these new gardein products! They’re also great for new vegans who don’t want to feel left out of the freezer isle at the grocery store, as well as meat eaters who just want to see what vegan food tastes like that resembles the dishes they love.
Have you tried any of these products? What did you think?
