The world’s largest online retailer of natural candy is launching its own brand of individually-wrapped candy called CleanCandy, which is unique in being the first hard candy made with fair trade sugar. It’s also vegan, gluten-free, non-GMO, allergy-friendly, and made in an assortment of favorite, old-fashioned flavors that most people can enjoy – even those of us with certain lifestyles or diets.

“Anyone who picks up a piece of CleanCandy will immediately see they’re getting something special since dietary info and certification logos are printed on each wrapper,” said the company on their Kickstarter page. “If you follow a special diet, we want you to feel confident enough to pop a piece in your mouth, enjoying one of life’s little pleasures without worry.”

Usually, we associate hard candy with icky ingredients and rotting teeth, but CleanCandy aims to provide a different kind of sweet treat. They call the product “sugar gone good” because it’s vegan, organic, non-GMO, dye-free, gluten-free, kosher, allergy friendly, and made in the USA.

“Sugar gets a bad rap often because of the company it keeps — regular hard candy is basically sugar loaded with artificial colors, artificial flavors and corn syrup,” said Dawn Van Hee, co-founder of NaturalCandyStore.com along with Irene Nelson (her sister) and Molly Hamaker (their mom). “With CleanCandy sugar gets better friends in natural colors, natural flavors and organic brown rice syrup. No more guilt by association!”

CleanCandy will be offered in an assortment of seven classic flavors: Root Beer Float, Lemon Drop, Watermelon Wheel, Peppermint Swirl, Orange Slice, Butterscotch Button, and Chocomint. Personally, I’m looking forward to the Lemon Drop, Chocomint and Butterscoth Button flavors the most! Yum.

The company is now raising funds through a Kickstarter campaign for its first production run this summer.

“Based on years of experience running our online shop NaturalCandyStore.com, we’ve developed the line of candy we’ve been wishing for — and that we know our customers and candy lovers everywhere will eat up,” wrote the company on its Kickstarter page. “After months spent working out the details, everything’s in place to move forward with the first production run. Now we just need your help to bring CleanCandy to life!”

The campaign has already proven to be successful. Within the first five days, CleanCandy raised more than 35 percent of its 20K target and earned a coveted Kickstarter Staff Pick. Starting at $12, various sponsor rewards are available— from CleanCandy® mixes and single flavor packs to the “Clean Up A Candy Dish” package and an option for giving CleanCandy® to the school, church or organization of choice.
