Food Review – FLYJOY Quinoa Bars – Vegan, Non-GMO, Gluten-Free Superfood Snack

Snack bars are so popular; I bet you have a one sitting in your purse or pantry right now. I always do! They’re an easy and convenient way to quell hunger and gain a burst of energy. I have tried many bars throughout my plant-based life, and now I’m putting another one to the taste test: FLYJOY Quinoa Bars.

FLYJOY Quinoa Bars contain all natural ingredients and are gluten free, Kosher certified, non-GMO, and vegan. All varieties have a nut butter base and contain quinoa, flax, oats and chia. The six flavors are Blueberry Almond, Cranberry Almond, Coconut Almond, Cherry Coconut, Peanut Cacao Nib, and Cashew Cookie Dough.

These quinoa bars are packed with superfoods and antioxidants. They’re also pretty delicious! The Blueberry Almond flavor tastes like a blueberry muffin, while the Cashew Cookie Dough tastes like a healthy cookie. The texture was a perfect balance of crunchy and chewy. Here is the Blueberry Almond flavor.

FLYJOY Bars contain all natural ingredients. Each healthy snack bar is gluten free, Kosher certified, non-GMO, and vegan.

Aside from tasting great, FLYJOY Quinoa Bars get major points for being healthy since they contain whole food, all-natural ingredients like quinoa, oats and peanuts. Here is the back of the Peanut Cacao Nib flavor.

Aside from being good for you, these bars are also good for people and the Earth. Ten percent of sales go to HOPE International, a Pennsylvania-based nonprofit that offers micro loans, business training and savings services to poor families around the world. Way to go, FLYJOY!

I think the back story of the company and its founder, Curtis Bomgaars, is pretty interesting, so I’ll share a quote from a Feb. 2015 article by The Des Moines Register:

“Bomgaars started importing and selling quinoa — a main ingredient in the bars — in 2011, after his third trip to Ecuador, where he discovered an indigenous women’s foundation that grew a special strain of the ancient (and now all the rage) grain as a means of support for the women. While there, he also discovered a Colombian a woman named Claudia. They married in 2012 and are living in Orange City while Claudia finishes school at Northwestern College and Curtis gets his fledgling company out of the nest.”
