Have you heard of Chloe Coscarelli? She’s a beloved vegan chef who rose to culinary stardom after winning Cupcake Wars a few years ago. Then, she came out with a few cookbook, like Chloe’s Vegan Italian Kitchen. Now, she’s in the restaurant business! About a month ago, she opened her new restaurant on Bleecker Street in NYC called by CHLOE. I’ve been there twice now and, yes, I’ll say I’m a cult follower. It seems I’m not the only one!
Once you step into Trader Joe’s, you’ll definitely plan to come back again. Everything seems so cheap, and it’s easy to fill up a cart quickly because you’ll feel like you want (no, NEED) everything you see. I’ve been buying vegetarian and vegan food from Trader Joe’s locations all across the country for years now, and I’m a huge fan of the store.
I have some good news for fellow chocoholics — the company that I’m a Brand Ambassador for, ALOHA, just released a new Superfood Chocolate Collection in several cool flavors! This chocolate bar tastes great and contains HUNDREDS of nutrients from superfood greens.
It has been 13 days since starting this vegan challenge. In addition to cutting out meat and dairy, I have also cut out all refined sugars and soda, and I rarely eat gluten! Here’s a recap of what I’ve eaten and how I did this challenge last week.

March 4-8 marked the 2015 Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim, California. I wish I could have gone to this event, but because I wasn’t there in person, of course I’ve been following the expo news on social media. From what I’ve seen, it looks like this is a great year for vegan food.
Unfortunately, the end of February was the last week that New York City could spot The Cinnamon Snail truck on the road during regular business hours. It’s one of my favorite food trucks, and most of NYC also agrees this food is amazing. In 2014, The Cinnamon Snail was crowned Best Food Truck in NYC by winning the 10th annual Vendy Cup, thanks to their specialty sandwiches and doughnuts. At one point, I was having their lunch at least once a week in midtown Manhattan, and I always saw a line of hungry New Yorkers! Clearly, there was a huge demand for this vegan food, so it’s sad the truck is going off the roads.
It’s so easy these days to find vegan options at the grocery store, and not only kale and carrots (though they hold a special place in my heart and weekly shopping list). After priority #1 which is getting fresh produce, it’s nice for us plant-based eaters to find products that are meat-free, dairy-free, egg-free, and often organic and non-GMO certified. These convenience products make healthier food switches easier, especially now that most big-name grocers carry them. Even vegans want quick options, too! Here are some vegan packaged food items that have recently hit the market.
Wow, this is not a dream of fluffy marshmallow clouds…this is real life. Gelatin-free marshmallows! It may be hard to believe, but I think these vegan marshmallows are actually much better than the brands I grew up with!
Happy winter holidays, Cincinnati! Now is the time for all the holiday parties, gift-exchanging, work functions, traveling and spending time with friends and family. If you need to bring a treat to any get-together, try locally-made dessert. I recently had some delicious baklava in Cincinnati.
